Gary Carlton

When did you start karting?

I started karting at the age of nine. My father George Carlton grew up building and riding chopper motorcycles. He has always been a gear head and one day we went to a local track to see a race. We both thought it was really cool so when saved up the money we bought an Emmick chassis and we went off racing. I still remember my first ever race at Kinsman Kart Club in Dixon California. I was really slow and got lapped. I hope now I have redeemed myself a small amount after that first race.

Every young driver as hopes and dreams to become just like a particular professional or non professional driver, who is that driver for you?

I never have really looked up while have moved the karting or race car ranks. Of course I would always watch and study the older drivers when I was younger and would take special interest in some drivers. But when I would watch I was always thinking in the back of my mind how I could beat them. And I still do that to this day. Of course I have much respect for some drivers out there but I want to make my own name. I would hate to be just like someone else.

What is your favorite memory from karting?

Favorite memory…….. Well when you have been in karting as long as I have there are too many to choose from. I have been extremely fortunate to travel all around the World for kart races and have had some amazing experiences with some extraordinary people. I would like to think my favorite memory from karting will come at the next race!!!

Do you have a nickname, if so what is it?

GFC

What form of racing do you aspire to?

I think most young drivers that come through karting aspire to race in Formula 1 or something like it. As for me I just want to take any opportunity that comes available to me that would benefit my driving career. At the end of the day I want to be in the driver’s seat racing and for me the form of Motorsport does not make a difference. A race is race and I will do whatever it takes to win no matter how big the wheels are.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

My favorite ice cream…… well I like all kinds of ice cream but my training program limits my intake. So what I’m saying is at this point any ice cream is good ice cream.
